August 26, 2019
We probably saved our best for last. After being beaten by the Eagles by just under 100 points in our last encounter, it was always going to be a tough ask. Our first quarter kicking with a four to five goal breeze was very good, just marred by some inaccurate kicking. However we did not give up and were able to restrict their lead to 9 points at half time.

Both sides were feeling each other out, and we were our own worst enemy, overusing the handball across half forward and getting ourselves into trouble. Norwood got the next couple of goals before we finally got on the board through Chris Barns, in what was some of the better and decisive ball movement for the quarter. Norwood then got one right on the siren to take a 19 point lead into the first break. Billy Lloyd and Brayden Kirk were winning plenty of the footy, but we just couldn’t get any momentum with our ball movement. R14 Reserves v Glenelg
July 05, 2016
The boys had a week off last week thanks to the bye, so we went into Saturday’s game against Glenelg fresh and ready to go. Back at Prospect Oval once more, we made 6 changes, with Michael Virgin and Sam Wundke back from the League side, Luke Teasdale was back from injury and Ben Jarman, Jordon Sweet and Jack Graham were all back from state under 18 duty. Out of the side went Jake Liston, who played League, Michael McMahon (groin), Kahlin Santillo, Lee Minervini, Jordy Schmidt and Cohen Thiele.

After a much needed week off with the bye, we were back at Prospect Oval to take on Adelaide on Saturday afternoon. With a host of players returning and West completely undermanned, the game was done as a contest by quarter time. To their credit they were able to stay focused and apply pressure for the full game. In fact the margin probably should have been far greater with a host of set shots missed from little or no angle.

Under 18 V Sturt
June 14, 2016
Fielding our most inexperienced side for the year, with 10 players unavailable to the Club due to state commitments and a handful of others injured, we had the job ahead of us on Saturday. The first quarter saw us start well with the breeze but Sturt gradually got on top as the day wore on.  Whilst the final score line was not flattering, the effort of the players could not be faulted.

After a close loss to South Adelaide last Saturday, we were well rested as we took on Glenelg at Gliderol Stadium on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday. We went in with just the two changes, with Sam De Leonardis being called up to the league side and Kieren Smith left out of the team, while Lee Minervini was back from the State under 18’s team and Luke Teasdale back from an injury.

Today our players got an opportunity to play on AAMI Stadium; we played after the State U18 game against the Allies.    An opportunity for some lads to showcase themselves to the many recruiters present. The game was expected to close, over recent weeks South have been playing some very good footy and we knew we were in for a fight.  We had a few debutantes and one player returning from a long term injury.

Round 10 League v South Adelaide
June 07, 2016
After a week off for most of our players due to the state game last week, we headed south to Noarlunga to take on South Adelaide.  We made two unforced changes, with Sam Wundke and Nick Amato coming into the team for Jake Liston and Cohen Thiele. Perfect conditions greeted the two sides and it was the Roosters who jumped out of the blocks. Mitch Harvey opened the scoring with the first two goals, with the second coming from open play. We were aggressive early and all the play was in our forward half of the ground. Lewis Hender added another goal before South fought their way back into the contest. The Panthers kicked the final two goals of the first term to cut our lead to just 3 points at the first change. South were starting to control the game and they were dominating in the midfield, with 9 more clearances resulting in 11 more inside 50 entries. Jordie McKenzie and Tom Schwarz started well in the middle while Alex Spina was continuing his good form in defence.

After a very good win over West Adelaide last weekend, we were back at home against Sturt, who are one of the form sides in the SANFL under new coach Martin Mattner. We made one change, with Billy Lloyd being the unlucky one to miss with George Thring coming back into the side. This was a big test for our side and a check on how far we have come as a football club in the first 9 rounds of the season.

After a close defeat to Adelaide last week, we had to regroup and switch our focus to take on the 2015 Premiers West Adelaide, who was desperate to win for the first time in 2016. We made two changes, with the unlucky Max Thring missing with a strained hamstring and Maris Olekalns making way for Billy Lloyd and Jake Liston. Round 7 League vs Adelaide at Prospect Oval
May 10, 2016
After a terrific win over Glenelg last week, we were fired up and ready to take on an in-form Adelaide side on Sunday at Prospect Oval. In a rare luxury for the footy club, we took in an unchanged side for the first time in a very long time. The first goal went the way of the visitors, going coast to coast and carving through us to get the scoring underway. We then got on a roll, with four quick goals from Jay Shannon, Mitch Harvey, Lewis Hender and Marlon Motlop to gain the momentum and have the crowd involved in the contest. We then conceded the next two goals, as we started to make skill errors as a light shower came across Prospect Oval. Our pressure was terrific through the first quarter, with Mitch Clisby kicking a much needed, captain’s goal to regain the ascendancy before Jordie McKenzie extended the lead. Adelaide jagged a late goal to cut the margin to 10 points at the first break. Our pressure and ball movement was very good early as we held momentum for large parts of the first term. Max Thring was very noticeable in the first term, getting plenty of the footy and using the ball well.

May 10, 2016
We got off to an absolute flyer in every sense of the word! Three goals in five minutes gave us instant momentum with goals to Billy Lloyd and two from key forward Sam Gordon to put Sturt on the back foot. Our intensity was simply outstanding and we had 5 scoring shots in 10 minutes, with a miss to Gordon and Jono Hayes kicking his first. Sturt then had a patch of momentum as they got their first goal before we then hit back. Liam Jacka got the quick reply, before Michael Clinch, who played forward and kicked his first before Kieren Smith finished off a scintillating quarter of football. Jake Liston started very well in the midfield and Jono Hayes was terrific up forward, with his pressure being the catalyst for the Kieren Smith goal. Sam Gordon also started well, with his two goals and crashing the packs when required. We played fast and aggressive football that was hard to stop and very impressive to watch.

In the second we backed this up again with another great Qtr of footy, we managed to have 6 goal lead going into the half. The third was a slow Qtr, this was the only Qtr the Bays won, however only by two goals. In the fourth we managed to get the control back and finish the game off with a four goal win.The boys performed well all day and solidified a spot in the finals. We finish the year in fourth spot.We now play the top team, the Eagles on Thursday night at Footy Park.

A very important game for us today, a win would secure us a place in the finals and the boys looked good coming out the blocks strong, kicking with the breeze. This would be the scoring for the day. Only a narrow lead at qtr time. Second Qtr was good, we managed to score against the win and at half time we were down by 1 goal. It had been a very good battle so far, a big second half was needed. We had a string third Qtr, keeping the Eagles scoreless, unfortunately inaccurate kicking hurt as we kicked 3.6, a strong performance but unable to finish in front of goals.

We finally dominated a game from start to finish. West had beaten Norwood who we had lost to, so we were not expecting an easy contest. However we got on top from the start and ended up with a confidence boosting win. Only a very wasteful second quarter stopped the margin from being far greater. We now face the second and third sides on the ladder, so we should be attacking these contests in a very positive frame of mind. If we win both a second position finish will be our reward.

Despite Norwood kicking the first goal we generally controlled the first quarter and in fact most of the second quarter, but surprisingly went in at half time behind. However a six goal third quarter gave us a four goal lead at the last change and when we kicked the first goal of the last quarter the game was as good as won.A little concern was we allowed Norwood to have more scoring shots in the last quarter than they had in the previous three, but thankfully they were a bit wasteful. Still, it was a good win against a quality side.
