After playing juniors with North with distinction, where he won the best Ruckman award for the Senior Colts and best Ruckman for the Second Eighteens, Colin made his league debut in 1951.

In his first year he represented North in the league Grand Final but unfortunately the team narrowly lost.  Colin began to cement his place in the side in 1952 but unfortunately part way through the year suffered a serious injury which ended his season.  1952 was a premiership year for North and but for this injury Colin was almost certain to have played in the premiership.

Not to be deterred, Colin resumed with North in 1953 and such was his determination he was awarded the “Best Attention to Training with Results” Award in 1953.  This determination saw his form continue to improve so that he won the Best Follower award for the first time in 1954, the first of three times he was to win this award for the league team.

On a personal note, Colin probably achieved the pinnacle of his career in 1956 when he was twice chosen to represent South Australia during the Perth Carnival.  In this year Colin won his second “Best Follower” for the league team and won it again in 1957.

In 1958 Colin was part of a team that dominated for most of the year.  It won 15 of its first 16 games, including beating Port at Alberton in a game where Colin played a major role and was named high in the best players.  Port had won the previous four premierships and to beat them on their home ground was a huge achievement. Unfortunately in round 17, the second last minor round game, North lost four interstate representatives to injury during a fiery game at the Parade.  Worse was to come in the last minor round against West Adelaide when Colin suffered a career ending knee injury.  This injury to Colin has always been considered a major reason why North went from being premiership favourite, to being eliminated in “straight sets” during the finals.

Thus Colin’s career ended with North Adelaide with him having played 110 games and having kicked 42 goals.
