Frank was recruited from Salisbury Football Club and started with the Colts team in 1940 under Coach Don McInnes. He played 7 games for Norwood-North during the Second World War before debuting for North in round one of 1945. During that year he only played 4 games whilst serving with the RAAF, but he really blossomed during the next two seasons to such an extent that he won North’s Best and Fairest in both 1946 and 1947.

So outstanding was Frank’s form that he received offers from St. Kilda (Victoria) and Renmark to transfer in 1948. The Renmark offer, as captain-coach, included a job and a house. The North Adelaide Football Club was able to retain his services by finding a house for Frank before he was married in April 1948.

In 1949 Ken Farmer was appointed Coach of North Adelaide and Frank was chosen to be vice-captain of the Club. It was an inspired move as Frank was a very reliable lieutenant to brilliant captain Ian McKay.  He played lion-hearted football throughout the whole 1949 season and his steadiness as a ruckman and his rock-like defence when resting were invaluable factors in the team’s success during the year. The side went on to win the premiership by 23 points and Frank was a fine contributor to the win.

The 1949 Grand Final was Frank’s last game for the Club. He injured his knee during the game and in 1950 was appointed playing coach of the Korumburra team in the Central Gippsland Association (Victoria).

Frank spent his latter years in NSW and celebrated his 90th birthday on 28 May, 2012 before passing away on the 2st July, 2012

He played 62 games for North Adelaide and 7 for Norwood-North and was credited with another 42 games due to his war service.

The North Adelaide Football Club acknowledges Frank’s significant contribution to our history and salutes a premiership hero.
