With little access to junior football, Kevin started his football career with Balaklava High School and some games for the Blyth Colts before playing A Grade for the Watchman Football Club in the North Western Football Association (now the Adelaide Plains Football Association).  Kevin was joint winner of the 1962 North Western Football Association Mail Medal.  At the end of that season he was invited to trial at Prospect.

Kevin made his League debut in a very tough match against West Adelaide in 1963 in front of a 12,000+ crowd at Prospect Oval.  He was recognised as an unassuming player, going about his business quietly and efficiently, mainly as a backman.

In that first year Kevin won the Club's award for the Most Promising Country Player and performed very well in the games in which he participated.  He possessed plenty of football ability but struggled to gain consistent League selection, managing only 24 league games in his first 4 seasons.  However, he won many awards for the second eighteens including Best Backman in 1964, 1965 and 1966 and he featured in the Seconds’ consecutive Premierships in 1964 and 1965.

In 1967 he added 12 league games to his tally and was awarded the Club’s Appreciative Club Service award in the League and Best Placed Man in the Seconds.

Kevin’s hard work and persistence eventually paid off and he became a regular selection in the League team.  In 1968 his efforts were recognised as a “bright spot for the Roosters” when studies forced Adrian Sutter out of the League team and Kevin took over the roll of a key backman.  He was recognised by being awarded the Club’s Best Backman award for 1968.

Injuries plagued him in the early 70’s and in our 1971 premiership year he played 16 games but unfortunately missed the Grand Final.  However, in 1972 Kevin became a regular, selected in all 25 games North Adelaide played that season and being recognised as a resolute and reliable defender.  For the Grand Final “Rosey” was named on the bench and came on in the last quarter, thus becoming a well-deserved premiership player after years of dedicated service.  He also played an important part of the 1972 Champions of Australia team and will be remembered for his composure under pressure and steady, solid performances in defence.

1972 was Kevin’s final year with the Club.  In that year he earned the Club’s Meritorious Service Award, passed 100 league games for the Club and was awarded Life Membership for his valuable services rendered over his many years of association with the Club.  A great club man!
